JSCC Benefits Counselors and Clerks

For over 23 years, Julie Stroud has assisted individuals with disabilities and other barriers to find long-term competitive employment in the community. 

Thirteen years ago, Julie became an Indiana Certified Benefits Counseling (BIN) Liaison and was quickly promoted to a Tier Two BIN liaison, which is a recognition of her extensive knowledge of benefits and ability to explain that knowledge to SSI recipients and SSDI beneficiaries.

I was a Life Skills Special Education teacher for 32 years. I taught ages 5-22 during my teaching career. For 5 of those years, I taught the Young Adult Program which got me into the employment world and understanding benefits.

After I retired from teaching, I became a Certified Employment Specialist. I also became a resource coordinator and a Certified Benefits Counselor at the same time. Being in the role as resource coordinator and a Benefits Counselor sparked my interest in understanding in how benefits and employment can work together. I absolutely love helping people with understanding how benefits and employment can work together and giving resources to people.

I also spent a year working at a local Work One office as an Employment training advisor. During this time, I was not actively providing benefit counseling and realized that I really missed it so I am thrilled to be back into benefit counseling. I have been a Certified Benefits Counselor for 2 years going on my 3rd.
